Also known as Antillanca, the Mapudungun word for “the jewel of the sun”, attempting its summit will allow us to discover the world of mountaineering and enjoy incredible views of the Chilean Lakes District.
Rising along the road between the cities of Osorno and Bariloche; with its last eruption more than 2000 years ago, the Casa Blanca is a beautiful stratovolcano located between the Puyehue and Rupanco lakes. With a ski resort on its feet, little glaciation, and only 1990 meters over the sea level makes it an ideal not technical alternative to access one of the dominant summits of Southern Chile and a perfect viewpoint of future challenges.
The climb on the northwest face starts at the parking area of the Hotel. Depending on the season it is either possible to arrive to the „Crater Raihuén“ by vehicle or by walking about 3 km and 240m of altitude to gain. From this point, the ascent goes through volcanic scree trails during summer or snowy slopes in winter and spring. As we win altitude the views of the volcanoes Osorno and Puntiagudo and the Rupanco lake become increasingly impressive.
In our way back – but depending on our itinerary – it is possible to stop and take a thermal bath in “Aguas Calientes“.
