Matías graduated in Tourist Services with a mention in Adventure Tourism. He grew up as an athlete in the Chilean Mountaineering Federation (FEACH) and its mountain club in Osorno, "Amun Newen", exploring and climbing extensively in the Los Lagos region. He has taken courses in Orienteering, Mountaineering and Climbing at the Federation of Mountaineering of Chile, the Spanish High Mountain School (Routes of more than four long – EEAM 2008), course of "Lifeguard for Hikers (CSE/WFR Ecomed 2009 / WAFA ECSI 2012)" and during 2012 the course of "Techniques of Vertical Work" with Vertisub of Spain. Matías is also a specialized tour guide registered under number 9772 of 2013 in the National Tourism Service and a member of the National Association of Mountain Guides ( www.angm.cl).
He began mountain climbing in the Southern Andes of Chile at the age of 13. Among his climbs made in the European continent and the Andes include the Zmutt Ridge in the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, the attempt to the Via de los Suizos in the Grand Capucin, to the South wall of the Marmolada, and to open the Chilean Way to Mount Tronador, in addition to having ascended the San José Volcano, Casa Blanca, Puyehue, Calbuco, Osorno, Mocho – Choshuenco, the Puntiagudo Volcano and make the first absolute ascent to Cerro Isi in the Cordón de los Cenizos in Southern Chile (2007). He also explored the valleys of Ishinca and Alpamayo/Quitaraju in Peru, climbing, among others, the Tocallarju (6,032m).
With extensive experience touring the Los Lagos region, he has also worked as a guide and driver in Puerto Natales and the trekking circuits of Las Torres del Paine.
