Located in the Conguillío National Park, in the Araucanía region, this colossus of 3,125 meters of altitude offers an unforgettable experience for nature and mountaineering lovers.
With our guided ascent program to the Llaima Volcano it is not necessary to have previous mountaineering experience to enjoy the warmth that emanates from its soil and the unmissable views of the Sierra Nevada volcano, the immensity of the Conguillío National Park with its lush forests of ancient araucaria trees, the Conguillío Lake and the meandering rivers of petrified lava.
On clear days, the view extends to neighboring volcanoes such as Villarrica and Lanín, and beyond, the vast plains of the Araucanía region. A two-day program starting the transportation from the city of Puerto Varas to go directly to the Nevados de Vilcún refuge.
A highway journey of just over five hours, which allows us to have some flexibility in the pick-up and drop-off points.
At the refuge we will have shared rooms that require the use of our own sleeping bag; if available, dinner service will be provided by the refuge, otherwise we will prepare it ourselves, as well as breakfast.
Both meals are included in the program.
The ascent in the summer season runs through volcanic rocks and a glacier sector at the top, being almost 9 kilometers to climb, with almost 1,600 meters of elevation gain, with an average slope of 19%, but in the final part increases to sections of 54%.
Although the guided program does not require previous experience, it is necessary to have a very good physical condition and experience being outdoors doing physical activity.
In winter season it is an ideal destination to make the ascent with cross-country skis, offering various itineraries of ascent or descent to suit the conditions and experience of the participants.
On the way back it is possible to coordinate to drop you off in Pucón or any intermediate place on our way back to Puerto Varas.
